Gail Sorronda | Chromophobia 20-Year Anniversary Show
Avant-garde Australian designer Gail Sorronda engaged BAYLY PR to deliver the PR, sponsorship and event strategy for Chromophobia — a luminous experiential runway show marking 20 years of the iconic Brisbane label and debuting the 2025 Resort Collection. Staged at the UAP Foundry in Brisbane on 9 August 2025 and featuring a performance from the Australasian Dance Collective, the show needed to do more than celebrate two decades of Sorronda’s gothic-leaning, boundary-pushing design language; it needed to translate that legacy into national and international cultural conversation, deliver standout earned media, and unlock a sponsorship model that brought the vision to life without compromising the brand’s creative integrity.

THE STRATEGY
A 20-year anniversary show for an independent Australian designer is rare, culturally weighty, and operationally complex. BPR built the campaign around three connected pillars: a strategic sponsorship program to underwrite the show’s creative ambition; a tier-one earned media push positioning Chromophobia as a national fashion moment of the year; and a layered influencer and KOL strategy designed to drive organic share of voice in the lead-up, during, and well after the runway.
On the sponsorship side, BPR managed (and in some instances, identified and secured) an end-to-end roster of premium brand partners aligned with the Gail Sorronda aesthetic and audience — including luxury cosmeceutical skincare partner Rejuvaus (backstage skin), Bared Footwear, Davroe, The Calile Hotel, UAP, Inika, Makras Optical and a curated list of food, beverage and production partners. Each partner was matched to a meaningful integration point — backstage, on-runway, in gift bags, or across press collateral — turning sponsorship from a transactional exchange into a creative layer that enhanced the show.
The earned media strategy was built to land Chromophobia in the publications that matter most for legacy fashion storytelling: Vogue, RUSSH, T: The New York Times Style Magazine Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Herald Sun, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier-Mail, Brisbane Times, Urban List and Style Magazines. BPR led pitching, press release development, journalist relationships and post-show follow-up to secure both pre-show anticipation pieces and post-show editorial moments — including the widely shared narrative of Sorronda’s self-staged 20-year show as a “warm hug from the industry.”
Influencer engagement and seeding ran in parallel: nine leading local influencers were seeded with carefully curated product and storytelling prompts, generating dedicated organic content in the days leading into and following the show. On the night, BPR managed front of house, VIP arrivals, content team coordination and goodie bag distribution to 220 guests — ensuring every touchpoint, from invite to exit, felt considered, premium and unmistakably Sorronda.
THE RESULTS
Chromophobia was widely received as one of the standout Australian fashion moments of 2025, with national and international media positioning it as a defining cultural beat for independent Australian design. Across the campaign, BPR delivered:
10M+ total audience circulation across combined media and social media coverage of the Chromophobia runway show
7M+ international PR reach from editorial coverage alone, including features in Vogue, RUSSH and T: The New York Times Style Magazine Australia
Tier-one national press coverage secured across The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Herald Sun, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier-Mail, Brisbane Times, Urban List and Style Magazines
Standout post-show narrative momentum, including The Sydney Morning Herald’s widely shared “Goth designer has the last laugh after Australian Fashion Week snub” feature
315K+ potential audience reach generated through influencer content sharing dedicated Gail Sorronda and partner imagery (a conservative figure based only on captured screenshots)
Nine leading local influencers seeded and activated, producing 15 dedicated pieces of organic content in the lead-up to and following the show for Gail and show sponsors
A full sponsor roster managed end-to-end, including Rejuvaus, Bared Footwear, Davroe, The Calile Hotel, UAP, Inika, Makras Optical and a curated suite of production, food and beverage partners — underwriting the creative ambition of the show without compromising brand integrity
220 premium goodie bags curated and distributed to VIPs and attendees, delivering meaningful exposure for sponsor partners and a tangible take-home moment for guests
Two dedicated press releases issued, securing pre-show anticipation coverage and post-show editorial follow-up
Seamless front of house and event day execution across a 220-person guest list of media, KOLs, industry stakeholders and VIPs
Anecdotal feedback from media, industry peers and the Sorronda audience was overwhelmingly positive, with the show widely cited as a benchmark moment for independent Australian fashion and a powerful reaffirmation of Gail Sorronda’s place in the national design conversation. The campaign successfully translated 20 years of creative legacy into measurable cultural relevance, strong international press recognition, and a sponsorship model that elevated rather than diluted the brand — setting a clear precedent for how heritage Australian labels can stage milestone moments outside the traditional fashion week machine.
